LeBron James, the great forward for the Los Angeles Lakers, is still thriving in his 21st year. Despite being the NBA’s oldest player, the soon-to-be 39-year-old is regarded as a top ten performer. Rapper Lil Wayne compares the four-time MVP’s longevity to his own rap career.
Lil Wayne was recently asked by Bleacher Report’s Taylor Rooks who NBA player he would compare himself to in the “rap game.” Rooks proposed Steph Curry for his exceptional shooting, Giannis Antetokounmpo for his dominance, and Kevin Durant for his unstoppable scoring abilities.
However, the rapper chose James because they both began their careers as teenagers and are still going strong in their late 30s/early 40s.
“I’d compare myself to LeBron,” Lil Wayne remarked. “I released my first solo album when I was 14 years old, and it’s the same album I’m referring to that went platinum.” And I’ve been doing it at a faster clip ever since, exactly like him.”
Lil Wayne also alluded to Tom Brady’s final seasons in the NFL, when fans were continually wondering when he would retire. After 23 seasons, Brady retired earlier this year at the age of 45.
Lil Wayne claims that his followers never ask him about his possible retirement. Instead, they’re left wondering when his next record will be released.
“You remember Tom Brady, it was every year, even though he was winning the Super Bowl and all that, it still was, ‘Is this the year he’s gonna retire?'” said Lil Wayne.”We don’t say that because we don’t want you to retire.” So, when people ask me questions like, ‘When is Carter VI coming out?’ “I’m thinking to myself, ‘Godd, that’s six of ’em, and they still want it.'”
According to Wikipedia, the 41-year-old rapper has “thirteen studio albums, a collaborative album, three compilation albums, five extended plays, and twenty-nine mixtapes” to his credit. However, if Lil Wayne gives fans what they want, he, like LeBron James, does not appear to be retiring anytime soon.
