Kevin Durant of the Phoenix Suns is having a fantastic start to the NBA season and is largely regarded as one of the strong frontrunners for MVP honors.

‘KD’ was averaging 30.6 points on 51.4% shooting and 47.1% from outside the arc heading into Tuesday night’s game against the Portland Trail Blazers. In 37 minutes, he is fifth in the league in scoring, with 6.2 rebounds, 5.6 assists, and 1.2 blocks.

More significantly, his constant great play has helped the Suns to a solid 14-12 record despite being beset by injuries thus early in the season.

Some speculate that if 13-time NBA All-Star Durant maintains his strong play, he could repeat former colleague Stephen Curry’s achievement of becoming a unanimous MVP winner in the 2015-16 season.

‘Chef Curry’ averaged 30.1 points on 50.4% shooting and 45.4% from deep that season.

Kevin Durant is no stranger to winning MVP awards. He won the league’s best individual award as a member of the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2014, when he averaged a career-high 32 points, 7.4 rebounds, 5.5 assists, and 1.3 steals.

He has appeared in 22 of the team’s first 26 games this NBA season.

While it remains to be seen what individual honors Kevin Durant would receive during the current season, he was selected one of the top players in the first-ever NBA In-Season Tournament.

After averaging 34.5 points, 7.3 rebounds, 6.8 assists, 60.9% shooting clip, and 69.6% from three, the 35-year-old great was named to the NBA All-Tournament Team. He assisted the Phoenix Suns in reaching the quarterfinals of the “tournament within a tournament,” where they were defeated by the eventual champions, the Los Angeles Lakers.

He joined Giannis Antetokounmpo (Milwaukee Bucks), Anthony Davis (Lakers), Tyrese Haliburton (Indiana Pacers), and LeBron James (Lakers) on the NBA All-Tournament Team.

According to the NBA, the All-Tournament Team was chosen based on player performance in both Group Play and the Knockout Rounds. Positions were not considered when selecting players.

The selection panel included 20 representatives of the media. Kevin Durant was the only one of the five players who did not receive votes from all 20 voters, finishing with seven votes. But that was enough to get him on the list.

This season, the NBA In-Season Tournament was introduced for the first time to add dimension to the league year. The format of the competition was similar to that of in-season European football tournaments and the WNBA Commissioner’s Cup. From November 3 to December 9, all 30 NBA clubs competed.
