Kevin Durant is 35 years old and shows no signs of slowing down. But, as the prospect of retirement approaches for Durant, it appears he’s told at least a few former colleagues that he’d prefer to travel to Europe and play there.
Edmond Sumner, who played with Durant on the Nets during the 2022-23 season, explained the future Hall of Famer’s viewpoint and why he believes a transfer to Europe to play is probable.
“He might pop up, man,” Sumner told BasketNews.com’s Jonas Leksas. “I enjoy KD. He was a fantastic colleague as well as a wonderful person. Hopefully, he will arrive soon. He always says he wants to come over here and play when he’s done with the NBA.”
“So, let’s see if that actually happens,” Sumner said. “But I believe it, though, because he just loves ball, like that’s all he cares about.”
This isn’t the first time Durant has mentioned playing in the EuroLeague, and the last time was the star himself. Durant appeared on Serge Ibaka’s How Hungry Are You? podcast and declared openly that he would like to play his final season at FC Barcelona.
Durant said he thinks about it when he’s “on the couch, watching TV, dreaming,” but he’s not sure if he’ll do it.
Durant is still performing at an elite level, scoring 31.0 points per game for the first time since the 2013-14 season with the Thunder. Through 18 games, he’s also averaged 6.4 rebounds and 5.8 assists.
