The Phoenix Suns will host the San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday evening in their second home game of the season. The game will be the first career meeting between Spurs rookie phenom Victor Wembanyama and Suns living icon Kevin Durant, who was recently revealed to be Wembanyama’s favourite player growing up.
Durant was asked what that meant to him ahead of Tuesday’s game.
“It means I’m getting old,” Durant said, according to the NBA’s official account on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.
Kevin Durant has obviously gone around the block a few times in the NBA. Durant is 35 years old and was picked by the Seattle Supersonics in the 2007 NBA Draught. Durant has established himself as one of the most prolific scorers of all time in the years since, with a devastating combination of size and athleticism that opposing defences have yet to fully comprehend.
The parallels between Durant and Victor Wembanyama are obvious. Both players often use their enormous wingspans to just shoot over opposing defenders, and both show levels of quickness and coordination that are uncommon for players their stature.
Wembanyama, who is only 19 years old, has already provided numerous Spurs highlights in the first few games of the season as well as throughout the preseason. When the two NBA unicorns walk the court for the first time together on Tuesday evening from Phoenix, it will be a sight to witness.
