Is a reunion between Kevin Durant and the Golden State Warriors on the cards four years and two clubs later?
Following ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski’s article about Durant’s “frustrations” in Phoenix, The Ringer’s Bill Simmons proposed a deal that would send Durant back to the Bay Area.
Kevin Durant has been acquired by the Warriors.
Suns get Draymond Green, Andrew Wiggins, Jonathan Kuminga, Moses Moody, a first-round selection in 2028, and a pick swap in 2029.
According to Wojnarowski, some of Durant’s dissatisfaction stems from Bradley Beal’s availability and their lackluster supporting cast.
“You talk to people in Phoenix and around that organization, and they can feel the frustration with Durant,” Wojnarowski observed on Christmas. “Certainly, [Bradley] Beal’s missed games are a factor.” The foundation of this club was formed around those three players (Durant, Beal, and Devin Booker). The unimpressive supporting cast that resulted from the major transactions for Durant and Bradley Beal, which decimated the club and forced them to acquire a slew of minimum-wage players to make the payroll.”
Simmons went off a litany of hypothetical Durant destination spots until he reached his conclusion.
“It’s really only Golden State,” Simmons admitted on his podcast. “Could he return to Golden State if this gets really bad?”… Matt Ishbia has only recently joined this team. He made a big deal about how ‘we’re good’ since we have Kevin Durant and Devin Booker. We have two of the league’s top twelve players. This is going to work.’ I believe the owner will be too stubborn to abandon ship with KD after less than a year.”
However, having Durant and Stephen Curry play together again and attempting to build another chapter in the Warriors dynasty is a tantalizing prospect.
