Kevin Durant may have a potential Hip-Hop pivot once he retires from the NBA. The two-time national champion was first featured on Lil Wayne’s Welcome 2 Collegrove collaboration project with 2 Chainz. The professional athlete has rap skills, according to the New Orleans native.
After Taylor Rooks brought up the subject, Lil Wayne verified the song with him and Durant exists.
“He said he had a question,” the journalist explained, referring to Durant, with whom she had previously communicated. “Are you going to drop a snippet of you all’s song on the radio show?”
“Why would KD do that?” Lil Wayne joked. “Because…that was written on the wrap.” “On the low end.”
The chart-topping rapper went on to describe how the untitled single came to be.
“KD You’ve made a mistake now that you’ve done that. I just want you to know you made a mistake. That song was being considered for Carter VI, but now that you’ve said anything, it won’t be on [the] Carter VI. No, I’m not going to play the snippet.”
“It was actually supposed to go on the Collegrove album with me and 2 Chainz that just came out,” he continued, laughing. I wanted it for another purpose.”
Weezy said of the Phoenix Suns player’s rhyming ability, “KD’s a jewel.” He’s a rapper on the go. I believe he could call a timeout in a game and ask him to rap, and he probably has a verse for you.”
After years of anticipation, Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz finally released Welcome 2 Collegrove in November 2023. Usher, 21 Savage, Rick Ross, Fabolous, Benny The Butcher, Vory, and Marsha Ambrosius appear on the album’s 21 tracks, which are narrated by 50 Cent.
