Kevin Durant of the Phoenix Suns has weighed in on the debate over the best point guard in contemporary NBA history, choosing former teammate Chris Paul over popular choice Stephen Curry. He did, however, emphasise that it is still up for debate.
“KD” announced his decision just as he was asked to vote on some of the brackets for the NBA In-Season Tournament, which begins this weekend.
He chose the Golden State Warriors in West Group C because they are the most experienced team in the group and because they have added Paul, who Durant believes should be in the conversation for best point guard.
According to the 13-time NBA All-Star:
“Chris Paul is perhaps this generation’s best point guard… I used the word arguably. We can debate.”
Some may disagree with Kevin Durant’s selection, especially given how Curry, in particular, has revolutionised the point guard position with his shot-making, which has resulted in four NBA titles.
But Paul’s credentials aren’t bad either, since he was the league’s best point guard before “Chef Curry” arrived, and he never failed to improve the teams he played for with his playmaking and leadership. One of those teams was the Suns, for whom he had previously played the previous three seasons, the last with Kevin Durant.
But, for the time being, the Warriors don’t care who the best point guard of this age is because they have both Curry and Paul on their side as they aim to win it all, not just in the NBA In-Season Tournament, but also the title in the 2023-24 season.
The inaugural NBA In-Season Tournament begins on Friday, November 3.
